MATERIALS IN CONTACT WITH DRINKING WATER

TEST ACCORDING TO KTW BWGL1+

Ever since 1980 the EU has been working to standardise hygiene regulations for materials and products in contact with drinking water.

MATERIALS IN CONTACT WITH DRINKING WATER – TEST ACCORDING TO KTW BWGL1+

Member states shall take all measures necessary to assure that no substance or materials for new and already existing installations used in the preparation or distribution of water intended for human consumption:

a) do not compromise directly or indirectly the protection of human health;;
b)do not tamper the colour, the smell or the taste of the water;
c) do not encourage microbial growth;
d) do not cause the release of contaminants into the water.

Annex V of the Directive identifies specific minimum hygiene requirements for the different raw materials (Organic Materials, Metallic Materials, Cement Materials and Glazes, Ceramic Materials – Table 1).

The different materials are judged following national and international standards.

To support companies producing articles intended to come into contact with water intended for human consumption, the laboratory is able to perform the following procedures:
